Is there really hope for AGI to be real?

How much this definition sets best on AGI?

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) ** **is a hypothetical AI that can match or exceed human cognitive abilities across virtually any intellectual task. Unlike current “narrow” AI that operates within preset parameters, true AGI would possess broad generalization, autonomous self-teaching, common sense, and the ability to adapt to entirely new domains.

There is a huge debate about this among AI scientists right now. Some experts believe we can reach AGI just by making current language models bigger and giving them more compute. However, many top researchers argue that next-word prediction has hard limits because it lacks real common sense and an actual understanding of the physical world. We will likely need a completely new breakthrough in AI architecture to ever achieve true AGI. Generally in my opinion it is possible but in future.
