Lab completion not registering

Hi,

I’m working through the ROCm Certified Associate learning path on academy.amd.com and I’m stuck on course (4) HIP Programming & Porting CUDA because the hands-on lab lesson isn’t registering as complete, which blocks me from starting course (5).

The details: course ID 166344, lesson “Hands On Lab” ID 227802, resource ID 404478 (Jupyter Notebook type). I launched the lab from within the Academy on 5 September, ran the full notebook on notebooks.amd.com with all three parts passing (vector add, hipify histogram port, and the reduction all reported PASS), and stopped the pod afterwards. I’ve repeated this twice on two different machines with the same result. The Academy shows the resource as clicked but the lesson remains “Not Started”, so the course sits at 50% even though the video module and the 15-question quiz are both marked complete.

The identical Jupyter Notebook lab lesson in course (3) ROCm Libraries PyTorch & AI Frameworks (course ID 166343) completed normally for me on 4 September, so this looks specific to Lab 4 rather than anything on my side. Several other users have reported the same symptom on the AI Academy Discord channel over the last two days, so it may be a wider issue with the completion hand-off from the notebooks platform.

Could you either check the completion hand-off for this lesson or manually mark it complete so I can continue to course (5)? I’ve also posted this in the #ai-academy Discord channel under the same details.

Hello, sorry to hear this is preventing you from finishing the course. It seems to be a widespread issue, and I saw an admin confirm it in Discord thread and mention he’s working on it. So you are not alone in this, thanks for the patience.

Update: lab completion tracking has now been restored. Please close your existing labs, re-open and complete them again to ensure your progress is tracked. Sorry for any inconvenience caused

Thanks for the update, @nirth_AMD. Could you clarify the completion/submission step for course (3), ROCm Libraries PyTorch & AI Frameworks (course 166343)?

On 14 September I encountered the same symptom: both videos show Complete, but Module 3 Hands On Lab shows Not Started and the 15-question Quiz is locked. The notebook is Lab_3_Libraries_PyTorch.ipynb (workspace rocm-lab-3-i).

I have already backed up and stopped the old session, reopened the Lab through the Academy course link, and rerun all five exercises in the new workspace. GEMM and FFT checks passed, ResNet-18 completed two epochs on all 50,000 CIFAR-10 training images, and the final GPU compute diagnostic passed. The Lab Submission result table and outputs were saved and reloaded. Execution/editing was assisted by Codex; this report concerns the platform tracking, not a claim of independently assessed proficiency.

Is there a separate submit/finish action, a required session-stop step, or a normal synchronization delay? I only found the result table inside Jupyter, not a submission button. If no further action is required, could the team check the completion hand-off for this course? I can provide the saved notebook or account details privately if needed. Thank you.

Hi @Jonathan_Hume I see that you have successfully passed the ROCm certification (Congratulations!) so I am noting here that there is no action required from us.

@Guanzong_QIU I tested the lab on course: (3), ROCm Libraries PyTorch & AI Frameworks, and could not duplicate the issue. I see that your lab is 20% completed. Can you confirm if you have run the full lab? The LMS will only mark you complete once you have completed all of the cells.

Hi, ROCm Certified Associate, Lab 3 Completion Not Registering after completion. Refreshed, Killed Notebook and Logged out, still not registering.

tried it, it’s still not working

@BASI_AMD @nirth_AMD this is still happening for me on Lab 3 as of Oct 24. I checked inside the lab container (rocm-lab-3-i) and the notebook side looks correct:

  • The startup tracker 00-cell-tracking.py shows jupyter_progress_total_cells = 10, all 10 cell IDs in jupyter_progress_executed_cells, and jupyter_progress_last_sent_percentage = 100.0, with no “Failed to send progress update” errors.
  • JUPYTER_RESOURCE_ID is 227804, which matches the Academy Lab link.

So the notebook is posting 100% to the progress API, but the Academy still shows the Lab as NOT STARTED, the course is at 50%, and the Module 4 quiz is locked. I relaunched the lab from the Academy link, ran all cells, and stopped the session, with the same result each time.

The tracker does not check the HTTP response from /progress/update, so the backend may be rejecting the update silently. Could you check the progress service logs for my account on res_id 227804, or mark the lab complete? Thank you!

@Uncy_AMD since you forwarded the earlier lab-completion report, could you take a look at my post above? Lab 3 posts 100% from the notebook but the Academy still shows NOT STARTED.

Yes this is happening with an assortment of labs. I also was having the issue of even launching the videos with a (fatal error) from multiple browsers and multiple machines, confirming it’s a server issue. Hopefully they’ll resolve this soon.

Dude, it’s so annoying. I was planning on completing this this weekend. Damn.

Couldn’t agree more bud. If I see it updates I’ll let you know, and vice-versa if you’d be so kind.:folded_hands:

The issue is also happening on other assorted courses such as quantization as well as vllm from the deployment pathway. I’ve completed all cells and saved multiple times with it continuously not marking as complete. Appreciate you looking into this and your support!

I’m having the exact same issue, have tried all of the above multiple times but Module 3 in (3) ROCm Libraries PyTorch & AI Frameworks will not save and mark as complete despite completing all cells. @BASI_AMD @nirth_AMD Can you please assist?

Same here, stuck on Agent AI Module 8, Hands-On Lab 1.

Mark me down as another person who can’t make any progress on a course they were wanting to complete this weekend. Can’t progress on rocm-lab-3-i.

Same issue on my end

Same issue on my end for Course 4 in the ROCm Certified Associate program. However, my quiz for Course 4 was not blocked and I was able to complete that. SO now I have 66% of Course 4 completed, but I am still blocked from starting Course 5 until this gets fixed so I couldn’t complete the program over the weekend as planned originally. Could any of you guys please help? @nirth_AMD @BASI_AMD

Appears to be fixed now. I’d say everybody should check and see that their JuPyter books are now saving and loading correctly. Once I complete the labs I tend to reload the page before I kill the notebook and it’s been registering as completed. Happy learning!
